The European Investment Bank has granted DKK 9 million for specific energy activities in the Aved\u00f8re Green City area.<\/p>\n
Aved\u00f8re Green City is a collaboration and community of interests between Aved\u00f8re District Heating, Aved\u00f8re Housing Association and the railway town\u2019s institutions, Aved\u00f8relejren, Filmbyen and Aved\u00f8re Landsby, with a view to developing the whole area in a sustainable direction, with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as a guideline. Hvidovre Municipality is also actively involved in the work. To this end, several initiatives have been launched, and several grants have been obtained from the EU and from the Danish EUDP (Energy Technology Development & Demonstration Program) fund. All funded projects have their own project groups but, in order to coordinate the efforts, a joint steering group has been established from the beginning of Aved\u00f8re Green City with representatives from the above-mentioned actors in Aved\u00f8re Green City. The purpose of the steering group is to collect and communicate information about the work in the project groups and to be an ideas workshop for new projects in the area.<\/p>\n
One of the major projects is the renovation of pipelines and internal heating installations in Aved\u00f8re Boligselskab. In addition, the pipeline network in Aved\u00f8re District Heating is to be renovated, and the district heating network is to be extended towards Aved\u00f8re Landsby. All of this with brand new heating technologies and with a view to keeping the district heating consumers\u2019 heating bill as low as possible. The investments total over DKK 200 million.<\/p>\n
The steering group has applied for funding for the project from the European Green Cities (EGC) organisation and, after more than 2 years of work, EGC has succeeded in obtaining the said grant of DKK 9 million for the project from the European Investment Bank. The funds have been obtained from one of the support funds available from the EU system, known as ELENA, from which it is most difficult to secure funding.<\/p>\n
It is on the recommendation of the steering group Aved\u00f8re District Heating, that is a coordinator of the project and it is the district heating company that is the formal beneficiary of the grant, but the grant is provided to a number of participants in the project to carry out specific activities.<\/p>\n
The grant is intended for specific activities such as the optimisation of the district heating system, which will be carried out in close cooperation between Aved\u00f8re District Heating, DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and EBO Consult, which manages the district heating company. The aim is to electrify the district heating system so that we move towards what experts call a 5th generation district heating system with significantly lower temperatures in the heating system. As an example of specific activities that take the lower temperature into account, Aved\u00f8re Boligselskab\u2019s (Avedoere Housing Association\u2019s) two North and South sections are in the process of changing their internal heating installations to operate at a lower temperature, where the aim is to reduce the residents\u2019 heating bill without compromising the heating comfort of the flats. The extension of a sustainable district heating network to Aved\u00f8re Village is a project supported by Hvidovre District Heating Company in close cooperation with local actors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are many actors in the area who will benefit from the European Investment Bank’s funding, but our overall objective is, of course, to continue to meet our common vision of a sustainable area, and here the bank’s grant is a considerable and welcome pat on the back for our joint efforts.
